Sciatica
At least 40% of Americans will suffer from sciatica at some point during their lives. The good news: NexGen Orthopedics has the treatments you need to put your pain in the past.
What Causes Sciatica?
Your sciatic nerves are the largest single nerves in your entire body and connect your spinal cord with the muscles in your feet and legs. If your sciatic nerve becomes inflamed, it causes pain, tingling, and numbness. The pain it causes can vary, but it typically feels sharp, burning, or like jolts of electricity.
You can develop an inflamed sciatic nerve for a variety of reasons, including spinal issues like herniated discs or bone spurs. Ignoring sciatica can cause irreversible nerve damage.
Other Sciatica Risk factors
- A sedentary lifestyle
- Prolonged periods of sitting
- Being overweight or obese
- Having conditions like diabetes that can cause nerve damage
- Occupations involving a lot of heavy lifting, long periods of driving, or back twisting
How is Sciatica Treated?
To treat your sciatica, the NexGen team will conduct a full physical examination to identify the cause of your sciatic nerve inflammation. Based on your diagnosis, we’ll create a personalized approach to relieve your symptoms and reduce your inflammation.
Common sciatica treatments include:
- Prescriptions like muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, and pain relievers
- Hot and cold compresses
- Massage therapy, spinal manipulation, and physical therapy
- Steroid injections or nerve blocks
- Regenerative spine and joint injections
- Ultra-minimally invasive spinal procedures
In addition to medical treatments for sciatica, the NexGen team might also recommend lifestyle changes designed to improve your posture and body mechanics, nutritional counseling for weight management, and/or more physical activity to improve your back health.

Let’s talk about a personalized treatment plan to help you put your pain in the past, for good.
What Is Ultra-Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery?
Our experienced orthopedic team offers several ultra-minimally invasive spinal surgery techniques as an alternative to traditional procedures relying on a large incision.
During ultra-minimally invasive spinal surgery, your doctor creates tiny incisions using specialized surgical tools. The advantages of ultra-minimally invasive surgery include faster recovery times with less pain, fewer risks of complications and scarring, and improved outcomes.
